Bio

Chantelle Richardson is a Librarian at the National Library of Jamaica (NLJ). She works in the Special collections branch were she catalogues manuscripts, maps, and various visual materials. She also assist researchers from all over the world to access and use the NLJ’s collections.

Chantelle is currently on a one year Chevening fellowship at the British Library. She works simultaneously with the Eccles centre for American studies and the Endangered Archives Programme (EAP). Her main research focus is the Latin America and Caribbean collections. Throughout the year she has been working on two main projects. Namely, a comprehensive Bibliography of non-book sources before 1950 and digitized archives from Latin America and the Caribbean. She also engages in various speaking and outreach activities.

For the past five years, Chantelle has been connecting with various professional and social networks. She served the Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) as Secretary and was a recipient of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and the Online Computer Library Centre (OCLC) early career development fellowships, where she represented Jamaica in the United States.

Chantelle is also actively involved in her community. In Jamaica, she is a member of the Police youth club in her home district, Free town, Clarendon. Currently, she is a part of two groups at her Goodenough college residence. She acts as a sustainability ambassador for the “Reduce the Juice” campaign for halls of residence in the UK, and is a member of the African and Caribbean society.

Chantelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information studies with upper second-class honours from the University of West Indies, Mona campus.

She is passionate about research, sustainability, and community development. It is her hope to one day pursue further studies that will allow for her to infuse all her passions to make the world a better place.
